I’ve talked about doing this project for many years. It’s a real departure from the R&B Funk Jazz Salsa stuff I’ve done in the past. It felt great returning to my musical roots! All the songs except for “Dejem Que me Emborache” are songs written or co-written by my father Gilberto Lopez. The majority of the songs date back to the 1960’s when my father was a guard in the “tower” of the New Mexico state penitentiary. The others were written not long after that.

Although other artists have recorded some of these songs, my brothers and I have not really ever recorded them. At least not this way, the way Dad always wanted to hear them.

Jerry’s ability to move between the Latin and Pop cultures seamlessly, and his fastidious approach to each project has made him one of the most sought after Musical Directors and Producers, as well as tour and studio musicians in the business today. His compositions, vocals, and guitar work are heard all over the world in different languages and in different styles. A real “Pro” in every sense of the word, Jerry has gained the respect of everyone he has ever worked with over the years and still maintains a youthful and energetic attitude about his music. “I never give less than everything I’ve got to any given task. If I don’t think I can really dig in and have a great time, and contribute to a project, I will turn it down rather than do it halfway.”
